Yalumba dinner: this Friday!

If you haven’t already booked then you could miss out on what should be a fantastic evening with Jane Ferrari of Yalumba this Friday!

Yalumba is Autralia’s oldest family-owned winery and the wines are a good mix of classic old world Rhone style with a new world outlook – far more than just “Aussie sunshine in a glass”.

Yaluma’s Wine Ambassador is Jane Ferrari, a winemaker in her own right, who is a character that enhances life itself. She’s a wonderful mixture of immensely detailed wine knowledge, sport fanaticism and a complete laugh!

The venue is Olivier’s Schoolhouse on Northumberland Road, which is fast becoming one of the most popular eateries in Dublin, and we ask you to get there for 7.30pm for pre-dinner drinks.

Five Course Dinner and a fascinating tasting of Yalumba’s wines, with wines for dinner too, costs only €70 per head (or only €60 if you buy two or more tickets)!

So, we hope to see you there this Friday – where else would you get such great food, wines and company for just €60 per person?!

Book today, only 10 places left! Contact: info@thecorkscrew.ie

Aussie themed race day at the Curragh this Saturday

Category : Uncategorized

This Saturday the Curragh is hosting an Aussie themed day of racing for the Irish Field St. Leger. Entry is free for Australian citizens and quite a few of us are heading along for what should hopefully be a great day’s racing.

Get in contact with me at davidscott79 @ southdublinswans.com if you’d like to join us. Below is the press release from the Curragh Racecourse about the day’s events.

——————————————————
Stars of Racing set for “Super Saturday”

Champions will be crowned on “Super Saturday” taking place at the Curragh on 10th September. As part of the final Irish Classic weekend of the year, the race day will have a major Australian theme to coincide with the running of the prestigious Irish Field St Leger with the day promoting the €220,000 race as Europe’s premier trial race for the Melbourne Cup

Very strong links exist between The Curragh and the “the race that stops the Australian nation” as the Dermot Weld trained Vintage Crop won the Irish St Leger twice and also become the first European horse to win the Melbourne Cup, while 10 years later Media Puzzle’s victory was the second Irish trained success in Australia’s greatest horse race.

The iconic Melbourne Cup will be brought over from Australia to be displayed on the race day, while Vintage Crop and Bruce Davis, Australian Ambassador to Ireland, will be guests of honour. A special Australian wine promotion featuring the world famous Wakefield Wines will take place, while there will be free entry for Australian citizens.

An exclusive preview of the movie “The Cup”, staring Brendan Gleeson and directed by the world renowned Simon Wincer, will be shown on screens during the afternoon telling the story of the 2002 Melbourne Cup won by Media Puzzle. Race goers will also have the chance to enter a competition to win a trip of a lifetime to attend the 2011 Melbourne Cup

Saturday also features the Group 1 Goffs National Stakes with some of Europe’s top 2 year olds battling it out for championship honours, while the Curragh Amateur Riders Derby is another major attraction on the track. It is also ‘Bollinger Best Hat Day with the chance to come along to the races donning your ‘Best Hat’ to be in with a chance to win an indulgent 5* Spa break courtesy of The Heritage Golf & Spa Resort, together with a bottle of Bolly of course! . The judging panel will include Ireland’s leading international tennis star Conor Niland

Ireland Win Mens & Ladies International Cups of Aussie Rules

Category : Uncategorized

Ireland have secured an historic double, becoming the first nation to win a second International Cup of Aussie Rules in the men’s division, and also the ladies team have won the Inaugural International Cup for women. Well done to all involved, it is a fantastic achievement.

The ladies, or the ‘Banshees’ went through the tournament undefeated and really showed their class to beat Canada in the final. The Warriors, or men’s team, were one of the favourites heading into the International Cup, having sourced a squad of the best Irish Aussie Rules players from not only in Ireland, but living in Australia and throughout the rest of the world. The wins are a just reward for the huge amount of time and effort the playing groups, management and support staff have put in.
